My insomnia is back, and I think I know why. As we edge deeper into the year 2011, I can’t help but dwell on the fact that it won’t be long until 2012 is upon us. According to doomsday prophets, the Mayan calendar , the Holy Bible and a rather so-so John Cusack film, we, apparently, have a date with destiny.

Out in the city: is this the end of my world?
Has no one else seen the film 2012? Is this not what is happening before our very eyes? I found watching the film stressful, it struck a fear inside me that I didn’t like, nor did I sleep that night. I fret about having to pack up my stuff and head off to find some ark in the Himalayas as the world falls apart around me. I am hoping that the Mayans and their stupid calendar were wrong.
End of the world as we know it?
I feel fine. But, according to a handful of people that passed through the area last week, the end is nigh. Project Caravan, as they’re called, is a team of non-denominational Christian Family Radio listeners who are voluntarily driving a fleet of 20 identical rolling-billboard RV’s in four separate groups around the country to let people know that May 21 is the day of the Biblical rapture.

Cracked Mayan Code May Pave Way to Lost Gold
Led by Joachim Rittsteig, an expert in Mayan writing, a group of scientists and journalists left Germany Tuesday, on a mission to Guatemala in search of a lost Maya treasure allegedly submerged under Lake Izabal. In the last chapter, the codex describes the coming apocalypse, which it says will take place on December 12th, 2012.
